Death Penalty Blues

They're killin people in Texas,
politicians say that they have to die.
They're killin our folks down in Florida,
and it just doesn't make any sense why.
Those Damn Death Penalty Blues!

They say that death will keep others from dyin,
and their bible says its right to do so.
Little did we know they were all a lyin,
our brothers and sisters are not the foe!

America has the Death Penalty Blues.
Even though it had been outlawed by most of humanity,
politicians say that some have to pay all of the dues.
Many of the other countries see us as bringers of calamity.
America, void those Death Penalty Blues.

How can our children be taught not to kill,
when they see their government doing it at will?
These damn politicians seem to get such a thrill,
in seeing our courts give the poor man nil!

They're killin folks down in Alabam,
politicians say they really need to die.
They're killin people in ol Virginnie,
and it just makes no damn sense why.
Damn Those Death Penalty Blues!

The rich man's son doesn't have to die,
when he is convicted of committing capital crimes.
The poor man's son can't figure out why,
just to live, he has to drop all of his dimes!

So many of our youth are being wasted in Missouri.
Why?  The Show Me State has not asked.
They're killin human potential in Delaware and Mississippi.
These thieving politicians need to be unmasked!
We don't want those Death Penalty Blues!

Why cant these killing politicians seem to get their fill?
We don't have to sink to the level of those who kill!
Morality, Common Sense, and Civilization don't have to fall.
Justice must truly be available for all,
not as it is now for "just us" and "just them".
It must be there for all our women and men!

Hundreds of condemned, wait in the dungeons of California.
Politicians say that they shouldn't get to live.
Far too many more await their death in Arizona,
as many accused of the same, fall through the sieve.
We don't need those Damn Death Penalty Blues!

For anyone to kill is wrong; no ifs, ands, or buts.
To say that the Death Penalty is in any way fair,
you really do have to be a little nuts!
Everyone needs to dare to truly start to care,
and Damn Those Unneeded Death Penalties!

Washington and Oklahoma kill their own citizens,
as attorneys make millions for the death penalty appeal.
The Carolinas and Georgia need to broaden their horizens,
because our country and people need a chance to heal.
We need to do away with the Death Penalty Blues,
those Damn Death Penalty Blues!
America and Americans have all paid their dues.
Damn Those Death Penalty Blues!
